Why The Chess Initiative was founded

While chess tourneys aren't rare occurrences in Los Angeles by all means, there isn't a specific chess club--except for school clubs--centered around San Gabriel Valley per se.  The "San Gabriel Valley Chess Club" used to operate in Altadena, but due to the Eason Fires they have relocated to San Marino.  

How we'd like to help

There are no tournaments or chess events within walking distance in San Gabriel.  TCI was created to combat this.  We want to nurture a chess club that boosts the chess community within San Gabriel by hosting frequent tournaments and meetings.
